The Information We Collect:
This notice applies to all information collected or
submitted on the Benchwarmer Baseball website. On some
pages, you can register to participate in our fantasy
baseball game. By playing the game, you are subscribing to a
full-year game process. The types of personal
information collected at these pages are:
Username (required)
Password (required)
Name (required)
Address (city, state, country required - rest is optional)
Gender (required)
Year of Birth (required)
Email address(es) (required)
Instant messaging ID (optional)
Favorite MLB Teams (optional)
We also track the last time that you connected to the web
site and the last time you changed your lineup. There
is other information collected as part of the game - draft
choices, transactions, etc. - that includes no personal
information except the user ID unique to you and the
date/time of the transaction.
Note - We do not store any payment or credit card
information on the Benchwarmer Baseball site. We
accept checks for payment mailed to us, or credit card
payments via PayPal.
The Way We Use Information:
We use some information you provide about yourself for
basic demographic information. We do not share this
information with outside parties except for aggregate data
mentioned below.
Your email address is required to participate in the
game. We utilize your email address to distribute
information to you about the game and game schedule/events.
See information below on how your email may be protected or
may be visible to other players. You can provide an
extra email address and, if you do, you will receive all
mail to both addresses.
Information about your location and favorite teams may be
used to direct targeted advertising to you (currently
Benchwarmer Baseball does this with links for merchandise
for MLB teams - there is no location-specific advertising,
though 3rd-party advertisers may target certain ads based
upon your ISP...see below).
We may use non-identifying and aggregate information to
better design our website and to share with advertisers. For
example, we may tell an advertiser that X number of
individuals visited a certain area on our website, or that Y
number of men and Z number of women play our game, or give a
basic breakdown of participation by geographic location, but we would not disclose anything that
could be used to identify those individuals. We ask
for gender and year of birth, but at this time only for
demographic information.
Finally, we never use or share the personally
identifiable information provided to us online in ways
unrelated to the ones described above without also providing
you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such
unrelated uses.
Email Policies
Your e-mail address is an integral part of the operation
of the game. Benchwarmer Baseball will often send out
broadcast messages about current stages of the game and
reminders to its players. If you prefer to shield your
personal information from others, you may want to set up a
free alternative email address. Other processes around
your email address:
- Any email you choose to send from the site (league
broadcast, team message, trade offer) will display your
email address in the "From" header.
- Any broadcast message from Benchwarmer Baseball or
from owners in your league will not show the recipients'
email addresses. If you choose to reply to the
message, you do so from your own email program, and your
address is generally visible in that case.
- Once you begin communicating with other owners
directly with your own email program, Benchwarmer Baseball
has no control over the visibility and privacy of your
information.
- You can opt out of receiving broadcast email for:
- Score updates
- Transaction processing updates
- League broadcast messages from other owners
- You cannot opt out of receiving these messages:
- Broadcast messages from the Benchwarmer Baseball
office.
- Messages sent to your team or to you from other
owners or the Benchwarmer Baseball office (your address
is not visible on the site - but a link allows access to
sending you a message via a web form).
- Notification of a trade request or any action on a
request.
Cookies and Web Beacons
We do use cookies to store information, such as your
personal preferences when you visit our site. This
includes:
- Keeping track of the current league and team with
which you are working on the site.
- Some of your personal information (name, favorite
teams) for quick access.
- Whether or not to remember you when you re-visit the
site (so that you do not have to login from the same
computer/browser every time you visit).
Cookies are specific to your computer and browser, so if
you use multiple computers and/or browsers, the cookie
values will be different. By default, all cookies will
expire when your Benchwarmer Baseball web session expires
(30 minutes), you log out of the site, or you close your
browser. Keep in mind that some browsers may treat
separate windows as separate browser sessions and may
contain different information. When you log in, you
have the choice to check the "Remember me" box and, in that
case, the cookie values will be maintained for 30 days and
you should not have to log in again (please be aware that
anyone who has access to that computer/browser would then be
able to view your personal data without a password).
We also use third-party advertisements on Benchwarmer
Baseball to support our site. Some of these advertisers may
use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they
advertise on our site, which will also send these
advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense
program) information including your IP address, your ISP,
the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases,
whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used
for geo-targeting purposes (showing New York real estate ads
to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads
based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads
to someone who frequents cooking sites). New on
3/23/09: Some programs may also use information in your
browser about your visits to this website and to others in
order to provide advertisements of interest to you.
Benchwarmer Baseball currently uses these third-party ad
providers: Google, Linkshare, and Commission Junction.
You can chose to disable or selectively turn off our
cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings, or
by managing preferences in programs such as Norton Internet
Security. However, this can affect how you are able to
interact with our site as well as other websites. This
could include the inability to login to services or
programs, such as managing your team.
New on 3/23/09: If you'd like to learn more about how
Google uses cookie technology to serve ads on our web pages,
plus potentially to opt out of Google's advertising cooking
process without disabling all cookies in your browser (thus
retaining the rest of Benchwarmer's functionality),

Our Commitment To Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy,
and ensure the correct use of information, we safeguard access
to personal information, including usernames and passwords.
However, as Benchwarmer Baseball leases its web space from a
3rd party, users are urged to not use the same
username/password combinations that they use for sensitive
and financial web sites.
How You Can Access Or Correct Your Information
You can access all your personally identifiable
information that we collect online and maintain
here. We use this
procedure to better safeguard your information.
If you are unable to modify the data yourself, you can
correct factual errors in your personally identifiable
information by sending us a request that credibly shows
error.
To protect your privacy and security, we will also take
reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting
access or making corrections.
