  • Benchwarmer Bash 2024 - Semifinals: All games posted.  Championship round coming on Wednesday.
  • We're down to our final two teams. NYC2ATL (Chevy Chase) and I've Seen Your Face Before were victorious in the semifinals:
    • I've Seen Your Face Before (81-69, Home of the Brave, Power Rank 63) - Sherman Wan  vs. NYC2ATL (93-57, Chevy Chase, Power Rank 18) - Ricardo Alexander
    • Ricardo has won the Bash for the last 3 years with different teams. Sherman has never come out on top, but has been runner up 4 times.
    • Neither league has had a Bash winner before.

  • Benchwarmer Bash 2024 - Benchwarmer Bash Quarterfinals: Games 1-7 posted.  Semifinals coming on Tuesday
  • OK - life happening a little bit - time to pick up where I left off - Benchwarmer Bash Quarterfinals will post tonight
  • Answering another question, yes there will be a season in 2025 and I'll work to get caught up. Some of the timelines might be a little tighter.
    • I'm unavailable the end of this week and the weekend - so I intend to get player salaries and positions for 2025 posted next week.
    • After that, we can open up off-season trading.
  • Previewing the Bash:
    • There are 8 teams remaining - 6 league champions and 2 wild card teams
    • None of the franchises in the field have won the Bash before, although 3 owners have won with different teams - Ricardo Alexander, Jason Kiernan and Leif Jonson. Ricardo has won the Bash for the last 3 years.
    • There are no repeats from last season as Federation champions.
    • Federation titles by seed:
      • 1st: 3
      • 2nd: 5
    • Owners with multiple teams in final 8:
      • 2 teams: Ricardo Alexander, Jason Kiernan, and Sherman Wan
    • Our top seed based on BWB's power ranking, is Southeast Northern State Westerners (Bleed Dodger Blue) with an Power Index of 11. For the first time since we moved to Federations in 2009, none of the teams in the top 10 of power ranks made the final 8. 2021 was the last time the #1 team made it.
    • I've Seen Your Face Before (Home of the Brave) has a BWB Power Index of 63 which is the lowest-ranked team to make the Bash quarterfinals. It's the first time since 2012 that we haven't had any teams ranked higher than 100 make the field.

    • For our league championship rematches mentioned below on 11/13, 3 of the 4 went to the finals loser - only Metropolis from Superman League won again in this round.

  • Benchwarmer Bash 2024 - Association finals coming on Thursday - first games posted in the morning.
  • Notes heading into the Association Finals:
    • Second time around, not much change. Below we noted that 6 semifinal matchups were repeats of league championships. 5 of the 6 league winners prevailed in this series too - the only change was that NYC2ATL beat Overdried in the rematch.
    • 14 of the 32 finals matchups feature teams in the same league. This time there are 2 repeats of conference championship series and 4 league championship rematches:
      • Birdland: J-town (Keith Rudy) vs Palmer, McNally, Cueller, Dobson (Jason Kiernan). PMCD won the league championship 4-3
      • Bronx Bombers: Chandeliers (Sherman Wan) vs Maris (Jason Kiernan). Maris won 4-3.
      • Experts: Fantasy on Roids (Christian Ingram) vs NYC (Scott Swanay). NYC won 4-1.
      • Superman: Here Come (Michael Lehman) vs Metropolis (Jason Kiernan). Metropolis won 4-2.
    • In the Association finals we have 2 of the 32 series with an owner playing against himself: Jason Kiernan has both teams in 2 different finals: Yogi Berra Association and Hank Greenberg Association.

    • There are 128 teams in the Association field - 68 league champions and 60 wild card teams
    • 2 franchises in the field have previously won a Bash title, including last year's champion Kingston Baseball Club from Marxball (Ricardo Alexander) and there are 6 previous runners up, including last year's 2nd place team, Suffolk Steel from Perfect World (Robert Elias)

  • Because of the All-Star break (and weather), we eventually get out of our normal cycle of a 2-week gap between when games are played and when the standings affect transaction order and financial rewards for games. I won't be able to finish Week 17 games and set transaction order and financial information in a timely matter before needing to process Week 19 transactions. So this week's transaction order is the same as last week and there will be no financial rewards for wins/place applied this week. We'll be on a 3-week gap until MLB catches up.

  • First round draft picks of 2024 are now in the player list.  You can sign them this week.
    • How to find the picks?  On the player selection screen, use the "Other" filter and you'll find an option for "First Round (2024)"
    • You'll also find them by looking for players who are new to the list in Week 18, although they will be mixed in with other players added this week by making their first MLB appearances.

  • With Game 75, we're at the halfway point of the regular season
  • Due to a scoring error, Games 73-75 were rescored and updated box scores and standings are posted.
    • Someone questioned their bullpen stat line in a particular game and, on investigation, I found a mistake in the programming.
    • When you have relief pitchers in your spot pitcher slots, they are supposed to be pulled last and used only when needed. The program was putting them first - meaning the spot relief pitchers were being used ahead of the others.
    • It's likely been this way for a long time - I can't go back and fix the first 72 games of this year, but the lineups for 73-75 were still loaded and I just had to re-run the scoring.

  • You have 2 more weeks to cut players and still get a prorated salary rebate for the 2024 season. After Week 15 (deadline July 5), all cuts will return zero salary.
  • Transactions posted a little late last week. Someone requested some extra time for this week. I wouldn't get to these before Saturday afternoon anyway, so I've extended this week's transaction/lineup deadline to 2 PM EDT on Saturday, June 29.

Since we're currently finishing up Week 1 games, and setting the picking order takes a lot of time early in the season (a lot of ties to break), we probably won't be able to post the new order prior to the Monday evening deadline. You're going to be flying blind a little bit on the exact order.

  • With the short time between Week Zero and Week One, work on getting your lineups/rotations close to ready for Opening Day.
  • All teams will get an extra 2000 in cash this week - it's not added to your balance yet, but if you're short on cash, you spend it as though you have it (your cash balance can go up to -2000 in the hole in your transactions).

  • Pre-season/early season transactions - I've had delays and we're running close to the start of the regular season, but we're going to squeeze in 2 short transaction weeks before the BWB season begins:
    • Thursday, March 21 7 PM EDT - Redistribution Draft reset - Rounds 3-5
    • Tuesday, March 26, Time TBD - Week minus one - Free agent signings/cuts/trades
    • Sunday, March 31, Time TBD - Week zero - Free agent signings/cuts/trades - Plus, all teams get an extra 2000 in cash
    • Wednesday, April 3, Time TBD - Week one lineups due
  • The dates are subject to change. I do have some family obligations during the last 9-10 days of March that could affect these if I'm unable to process transactions in a timely matter.
  • Last season, I adjusted the schedule to have a little bit earlier deadlines for each week. This year I have to revert back to where we used to be with the Week 1 deadline coming after maybe a full turn in the MLB rotations already in the books.
  • Normally, we have at least 4 weeks of free agency between the draft and Week 1.  With only 2 weeks, there are a couple of changes:
    • Week minus one and Week zero will have more than 4 rounds of free agent picks (exact number TBD).
    • I will not enforce the 5000 cap on team cash balance heading into the season. You can wait longer this year to sign your multiyear contracts.

  • The 2024 Redistribution Draft is now open.  You'll 2 weeks to make your first selections.  Deadline is Sunday 3/3/24 at Midnight Eastern
  • Visit your team roster to see the link to begin making your picks.
  • For more information, see the rules regarding the Redistribution Draft
  • There are 2 weeks to do your list for Round 1, but you should consider building for all 5 rounds - or at least as much as you can, because if any of your listed picks/alternates are gone by your turn in the order, we'll pull up picks from Round 2 and beyond to make sure you get 3 selections.
    • After March 3, we post the results of only Round 1 only - any drafted players will be removed from the remainder of your lists.
    • You'll have one week to redo draft lists (if you choose), then we post the results of only Round 2 (again removing drafted players from your rounds 3-5)
    • Then one more week for an optional redo of your draft lists, and we post the results of Rounds 3-5
  • The season calendar of deadlines is not yet updated for 2024, but the deadlines for the Redistribution Draft are:
    • Sunday evening 3/3 Midnight EST - First submission - we post results for Round 1
    • Sun night 3/10 Midnight EST - Adjust your lists for Rounds 2-5 - we post results for Round 2
    • Sun night 3/17 Midnight EST - Adjust your lists for Rounds 3-5 - we post results for the remaining 3 rounds
    • Because of delays to this point, we'll have a compressed time for free agency - squeezing in 2 weeks of transactions in about 10 days...but we'll increase the number of rounds of picks during those weeks.
  • Any players on your Prospect Roster have been moved back to your 40-man roster.  You can begin to move players to prospect status again after the Redistribution Draft.

  • With all the orphan teams to go through, this weekend won't work for the cutdown deadline.  I'm going to extend it out to Sunday, Feb. 11 - however, it might be earlier in the day than midnight - stay tuned.
  • There's another round of orphan team requests that came in on Thursday or later and I'll assign those teams later today - as well as assigning foster owners to those of you who have volunteered for that.

  • Week Thirty Transactions Posted (2nd winter trade period)
  • I'll have an email out to everyone discussing the delays.  At this time, roster cutdown decisions are due on Sunday, February 4 at midnight Eastern time.  However, due to the large number of orphan teams, it's possible that this could be pushed out further.
  • Orphan Teams - here's the initial list of 170 available orphans for 2024.  There may be a few more added once I verify if some "no answers" on returning will indeed become orphans.  Email me if you want to pick up any of these orphans and we still might be able to get you to pick your roster cuts/keeps.
  • 84 New players added to the game based on the 40-man rosters for MLB teams as of mid-January.
    • This is the only player addition until after Opening Day
    • To find them - In the filter/search area of the player lists, look for the "New in 2024" menu - See the list of new players
    • NEW - While we're in the cutdown period and Redistribution Draft, you can also view players who were added in Week 25 in 2023. Since the last free agent signings were in Week 24, these players have not yet been available to sign.
  • Payment information is not yet set up for 2024.  While I'd love to take your money, hang on tight for a week or two until that's ready.

  • Deadline changes. I have some things going on in real life and will not be ready to open up the Redistribution Draft next week after the roster cuts deadline, so I'm going to extend everything out another week.
    • Winter Trade Period #2 deadline - extended to Sunday, January 14 at midnight Eastern - all trade offers set to expire at the January 7 deadline have been moved out to January 14.
    • Roster cutdown decisions deadline - extended to Sunday, January 21
    • First submission for Redistribution Draft expected Saturday, February 10
